RMS, the Robust Mail Store
RMS is a new mail store and retrieval system which is designed for use in a
nomadic setting. It supports a number of unique features:
- unlimited replication of the mail store's contents,
- disconnected operation on individual replicas,
- fully automatic merging of replicas using standard file synchronization
tools,
- per-message access capabilities for untrusted external readers,
- access to messages based on sets of message attributes --- no
hierarchical structure imposed.
Why do I need this, anyway?
Do you
- work with email on several different computers
- want to organize your email while disconnected
- not want to rely on centralized email repositories
(e.g. IMAP)
- hate hierarchical email stores (are all of your emails on
one topic?)
- want to share selected emails with others
- want to implement simple workflow schemes for your email?
If your answer is "yes" for any of these, then RMS is for you!
Here is a more
elaborate argumentation with a description of the system.
Downloads
At present, there is only a single-user command-line
implementation that works on a personal mail store.
Be warned, this software is in alpha-state.
Prerequisites
There are i686 binaries for my brand of Linux. If they do not work
for you, then you need to compile from scratch:
