Travel Instructions

The workshop will take place in Hotel Schwarzwaldhof next to the Railway Station of Hinterzarten, a small village at 20 minutes from Freiburg in the heart of the Black Forest. In March, it is in any case possible to take a hike in the Black Forest, and perhaps, depending on snow conditions, also of ski-ing (on Feldberg, at 10 km). We do not intend to charge a registration fee for participating in the workshop. However, every participant has to pay for the costs of the hotel, coffee breaks and a banket that we plan. This will not be more than 75€ a night (full board + coffee breaks) + something extra for the banket.

Getting there by public transport

Hotel Schwarzwaldhof is immediately behind the train station ``Hinterzarten''.

From International Airports

highway topology

The Black Forest Region is served by many international airports.

From Freiburg (im Breisgau)

Hinterzarten is a stop on the famous ``Höllentalbahn'' railway, which connects it to Freiburg with local trains with a frequency of 30 minutes. The ride between Freiburg and Hinterzarten takes 33 minutes and costs 4.40€. (From Freiburg, take the trains towards ``Titisee-Neustadt'', ``Donaueschingen'', or ``Seebrugg''). Here are a train schedule (original) and a price table, in German.

Freiburg (im Breisgau) is a hub in the German train network with good connection to many other European cities with IC (InterCity), EC (EuroCity), ICE (InterCity Express) and night trains. Local trains connect Freiburg to adjacent cities, including Offenburg, Basel (Switzerland), Donaueschingen, Breisach. Scheduled buses connect it to cities such as Colmar (France), Mulhouse (France).

Getting there by car

Hinterzarten lies along the German highway B31. You can reach B31 from two main routes:
