Instructions for AuthorsPaper submission is fully electronic. An abstract should be submitted by Friday, 6 April 2001, noon Central European Time, via the URL below. A paper can be submitted to ECML only, to PKDD only, and to both ECML AND PKDD. Since the two conferences are sharing a single submission website, please indicate this both in the title field on the form and by selecting the appropriate topic. Only papers which are genuinely suitable for both conferences should be submitted as a joint ECML AND PKDD paper; the authors should argue their case in the "Remarks" field on the abstract submission form, and also indicate there in which proceedings they want their paper published if accepted. The PC Chairs reserve the right to assign the paper to either ECML or PKDD if they consider it unsuitable as a joint paper.
You should use the login name and password which you received in a confirmation email after successful submission of the electronic abstract. Accepted formats are PDF and Postscript.
The paper should be formatted according to the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence guidelines. Authors' instructions and style files can be downloaded from the URL below. The paper should not exceed 12 printed pages; papers that clearly violate the formatting guidelines and length restriction will be rejected without review.
Multiple submission to at most one other conference is allowed (as long as the other conference has a compatible multiple submission policy). This should be clearly stated in the "Remarks" field on the abstract submission form. Joint submissions to ECML AND PKDD count as multiple submissions and therefore should not be submitted to any other conference. Authors of accepted multiply submitted papers should notify the PC Chairs within one week of receiving the acceptance notification whether they want to go ahead with publication of their paper in the ECML or PKDD proceedings, or withdraw it. (NOTE: We regret it is not possible to extend this period to accommodate conferences whose notification deadline is more than one week after ECML/PKDD's, which is 25th of May.)
All submitted papers will be reviewed by three Program Committee members, according to the criteria outlined on the review form (see URL below). We will follow the policy of conditionally accepting papers that are not publishable in their initial form, but that the reviewers feel can be sufficiently improved in time to appear in the proceedings. If a paper is conditionally accepted, the requirements for acceptance will be explicitly listed as part of the notification. Papers that have been conditionally accepted will be reviewed again after re-submission, and have to be accompanied by a cover letter stating how the requirements for acceptance have been met.
There will be both plenary and parallel tracks for the presentation of papers published in the conference proceedings.
