FreiburgFreiburg
is the capital of the Black Forest and is situated in the south-west of Germany,
close to the border with Switzerland and France. It is easily reachable from
major airports such as Frankfurt (Germany, 2 hours by train), Basel
(Switzerland, 1 hour by shuttle) and Strassbourg (France, 1 hour by
car). The
Albert Ludwigs University lies in the heart of the city of Freiburg. The
students, scientists and employees of the university have been integrated in the
everyday life of the capital of the Black Forest. This is one of the attractions
of the university which has made studying here so popular. In addition to the
freetime value of the city and the surrounding area and its vincinity to Alsace
and Switzerland it is the scientific variety that compels so many students to
choose the Freiburg university as their alma mater. The university was founded
in 1457 and presently counts over 18 000 students in 65 major areas of studies
and 15 faculties. The 15th faculty for applied sciences was founded
only recently and has two major areas of study: computer science and microsystem
technology. See also:
