Two Master’s Degree Courses
Until winter semester 2011/12 the Department of Computer Science was offering two Master programmes in the field of Computer Science:
- a consecutive Master’s degree course in Computer Science for graduates having studied a Bachelor's program in Computer Science at the University of Freiburg
- a non-consecutive Master’s degree course in Applied Computer Science for Computer Science graduates coming from other universities and countries.
From summer semester 2012 on, these two programmes will be merged. The new Master programme will be called "Master of Science in Computer Science". Students who will begin a Master's in Applied Computer Science in the winter semester 2011/12 (or before) will be able to complete this programme until September 30th, 2015.
The Master programme in Computer Science was accredited by ASIIN and is a two-year-programme designed for highly qualified German and international students. Courses within this programme are taught in German and English. That means applicants have to have a good proficiency in English as well as advanced knowledge of the German language.
Education in computer science methods and techniques are the primary goals of the programme. This is achieved through a wide range of courses, seminars and laboratory courses in Computer Science as well as in its application areas. The curriculum comprises an individual choice of advanced graduate courses taking previous experience, intended specialization and language skills into account. During project work and the master’s thesis students participate in actual research of the institute.
