Research
IIF at the University of Freiburg is a research facility, which regularly presents work at the most renowned conferences and in the most important magazines. Practical research is frequently carried out in cooperation with our students.

Many important areas of computer science are researched in Freiburg. One of the fields we are currently focusing on is graphics and image processing systems, which includes research into specialized topics like searching for pictures in picture databases, or technology for the three-dimensional visualization of contorted objects. Within the fields of programming language and software technology, we are looking at how software systems can be examined for integrity.
In a broader field, we are also carrying out research into formal basic structures and systems theories. Here, next to theoretical basics, we are also examining the issue of multimedia teaching support. Whilst in the context of computer architecture and operating systems we are interested in, for example, embedded systems and their reliability and security, in the field of communications and data storage we focus on computer networks and extracting information from the internet. Research in the field of artificial intelligence looks into questions of mechanical learning, the control of autonomous robots and cognitive systems. New to Freiburg is bioinformatics, in which we tackle new tasks arising from current research in fields like microbiology, pharmacy and medicine.
