 Junior Research Group Humanoid Robots

Humanoid robots, robots that have an anthropomorphic body, are in the last years enjoying increasing popularity as a research tool, especially in Japan. This has mainly two reasons: first of all the usefulness of a human-like body for the deployment in an environment which has been designed for humans and secondly the hope that a humanoid body can facilitate the understanding of human intelligence.

In the junior research group complex humanoid robots are being developed. This includes work in the areas: mechanics, electronics, perception, behavior control and learning. Our research focuses mainly on dynamic bipedal walking and intuitive multimodal communication with humans.
