Short CV
Since October 2004, I am working as a post-doctoral research associate at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Freiburg in the research group "Humanoid Robots".
I am currently working on intuitive, multimodal interaction
between humanoid robots and humans. This includes problems such
as face and hand tracking, head posture estimation, and gesture
recognition.
I am furthermore interested in probabilistic
techniques for state estimation in the context of mobile
robotics, in artificial intelligence, in multi-robot systems,
and in vision-based systems.
See my research page for further details.
From 1999-2004 I was a PhD student in the research group "Autonomous Intelligent Systems" headed by Wolfram Burgard.
I finished my thesis with the title "Mobile Robot Navigation in Dynamic Environments" in June 2004. Here is a webpage with detailed information (including animations) about my PhD work.
In 2001 I received an award for my thesis proposal at the Nachwuchswettbewerb der 4. Dienstleistungstagung hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and in 2004 I received the Wolfgang-Gentner-Nachwuchsförderpreis for one of the 3 best theses of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of Freiburg.
